The Authorities are the mysterious group of individuals who run the Nightside, primarily taking interest in major disturbances. Walker acts as their Voice.
Pre-Lilith War[]
Before the Lilith War, the Authorities was comprised of ten men, whose ancestors made their fortunes in the Nightside during its early days. Both due to and in spite of their wealth, they maintained total anonymity, their faces and names unknown to the public. However, they all were known to hold business interests in the Nightside, taking a cut of any and all profits. Their only interest in the Nightside is as a cash cow.
They were headquartered in a secret room of the Londinium Club, the Nightside's oldest Gentleman's Club, behind an invisible door only Walker could see. Their two bodyguards used to be angels from Above and Below, respectively, before choosing serving them.
During the Lilith War, they intended to reason with Lilith and strike a deal. However, when she finds their secret headquarters, she dismisses their bodyguards and lets her children tear them apart without giving them a chance to reason.[1]
Post-Lilith War[]
After the Lilith War, seeking new order, many of the Nightside's Major Players came together to form the New Authorities.[2] They consist of:
- Julien Advent (also head of the Night Times)
- Jessica Sorrow (also known as The Unbeliever)
- Annie Abattoir
- Count Video
- King of Skin
- Larry Oblivion
In attempt to distance themselves from the old Authorities, they now headquarter themselves in a secret room of the Adventurer's Club.
Trivia[]
- The only known name of one of the old Authorities is a man who introduces himself to John Taylor as "Harper."
- Walker turned down the invitation to join the new Authorities, instead preferring to continue serving as their Voice.
